My Semoweb Experience!

No offense against Volumedrive, but because they still haven’t deployed my VPS after almost a week, I decided to purchase a budget VPS from Semoweb instead after browsing a bit in WHT. I found a good plan plus added a bit of memory to my RAM because I thought it would be better with at least 768 Mb of Ram, I do have 1 Gig burst of RAM :)

Moving on, their support is really great so far. Plus up time is pretty good, especially because I’m currently using Lighttpd with my VPS, I tried Apache but I had trouble setting mod_rewrite module plus it uses a lot of RAM! I couldn’t upgrade my installed WordPress as well so yeah, I tried Lighttpd and it was awesome.

As for some uncertainties, I asked support ticket regarding installations also with IP Tables and they reply back really quick about 30 minutes, like they did claim in their website and offers. Dustin, the owner seems to be a nice guy as well – one time, he answered my question regarding this software I wanted to install for security of my VPS. The dudes at WHT are also helpful, there are tons of experts there and I’m glad I’m a member because it makes it easy for me to ask questions, read stuffs that leaves me with new knowledge.

Now I’m planning to move some of the websites I’m currently hosting through Hostgator to my VPS, then I will be also getting a shared plan either from Semoweb again, or my other trusted hosts, Preston Host and maybe Host1me too! Depends on my budget and specific needs although I like Preston Host’s current new deal with their new server, Saturn. However, my funds from my client has not arrived yet. My paypal is empty LOL.

Anyway, so far my Semoweb experience is superb! I am still waiting for my Volumedrive VPS though, after all their VPS offer still have good specs as well which I want to enjoy. But I suppose it’s going to take another week~

I hope I won’t run out of slots? Anyway, I have setup my other domains as well and they have WordPress installed now particularly, Girly Nerd blog and Just Blogged.

In Girly Nerd I will be posting my VPS experiences or whatnots then on Just Blogged, I will simply post my latest updated blogs so my blog friends won’t be confused.

Blog about anything!

Blogging is fun for so many reasons – and it’s even more great because you can just blog about anything. Now do you know the types of blogs?

Personal blogs are usually what we often know of, and in general all blogs are actually personal since they’re all made up of their owners opinions and thoughts. However some specialize in a topic just like the following that I will mention after this.

Have you ever had a photo blog? Today, this kind of blog is common and with using Tumblr. Then there’s also what we call fashion blogs where individuals share their fashion and style with clothing (I plan to have one :D )

Beauty blogs are also famous to women, since they share beauty tips through them. You might have heard about Health blogs as well. And actually there are many more.

This proves the power of blogging and that you can blog about anything. In fact, just recently I made my mini wordpress blog. Now, that’s just another type of blog, isn’t it? Hungry? Then go get read a food blog now :P

Backup your website through cPanel

hi, i have a self hosted blog for few months, would it be okay it ask your idea on how i can back up my blog? thanks in advance – thoughts of a sahm

Hi there! I appreciate your comment a lot, thank you! It helped me have this idea of sharing of how to make a backup of your website through cPanel.

Backup-ing is really important. In fact, right now the person who just commented reminded me that I haven’t made my very own backups! Oh no! Haha, but I guess I’ll work on it when I have time.

Moving on, here’s how we will make our site backups through cPanel:

1. First, login your cPanel. Then just look for “Backup Wizard”. It can usually be found within “Files” section. Or to make your life easier, press key CTRL then press key F then type the words “backup wizard” it will high light where the text is, thus leading you to the tool to be used.

Backup Wizard - Files

2. Then click the link, it will lead you to another interface. In the second interface you’ll notice that there are two options, backup and also restore. Since we’re making backups, we choose backup!

Backup or Restore?

Yes if you’re wondering, this tool also manages restorations of the backups to be made :)

3. Click “Backup” then you will be taken here:

Generate Backup

In this phase, you can choose your backup destination. The default is Home Directory, it’s a drop down so you choose. Then you can also choose if there will be an email to you if the backup process is done. Once it is done, you will find a .tar.gz file which can be restored using Backup Wizard too. Hope this helps you :) Feel free to ask me if you are confused!

*On another note, some hosting websites disable Backup Wizard in their cPanel. The reason behind this is sometimes, their backups eat up a lot of space, especially if your website is a big time website XD

Creator of WordPress – Matt Mullenweg

Define WordPress in three words – amazing, unbeatable, best. I thought to myself awhile ago, whomever invented WordPress is a genius. As an IT student, I knew about php, but to make an awesome blogging platform like WordPress is forever a dream because it’s something that’s amazing cannot even define.

Meet Matt Mullenweg he’s that genius I was talking about. However he came up with WordPress, I don’t know but I know millions and zillions of bloggers are very thankful he ever made WordPress.

I can tell that he’s still very young, like the famous Facebook creator (I will share on my next post). Also, thanks to Matt’s theme behind the development of WordPress, up to know it is making a lot of bloggers really happy! Yay for WordPress, thanks Matt!
